BackgroundConnecting to the internet from your hotel room consists of a complex matrix of ISP's, Brands and service tiers. At some hotels, Wi-Fi is free to everyone. While other hotels offer free standard Wi-Fi for hotel guests but also charge for two additional tiers of service. And for more complexity, Rewards members that book directly with Marriott receive free internet, while Gold & Platinum Elite members receive free enhanced internet for their loyalty.
The core framework had already been deployed and hosted by Marriott for domestic hotels, however international ISP's needed to replicate the screens and therefore required detailed design specifications as new features were introduced. |
Goals
|
Design specifications were originally created using Indesign which proved great for formatting, but cumbersome for updating and versioning. To simplify things and better track changes going forward, we settled on using a standard Word document. And instead of embedding screens in the document, we'd reference assets hosted online using Zeplin.
|
The limited design documents available were created using Photoshop, which meant huge files and crazy layers. Instead, I recreated a full set of screens within a single Sketch file to better manage all screen variations and individual elements using symbols.
This templated approach allowed me to quickly make changes that would propagate across all instances. This proved especially helpful after usability testing. |
